Surviving Lockdowns

To all those of my generation out there I wonder how you survived these times? For me it has been a time to practice purposefulness and commitment to goals I have wanted to complete. I finally finished my 'Herstory for the Whanau' which was a journey down memory lane recalling, scenes, smells, experiences of my past, growing up on a farm in the Bay of Plenty and then my journey to present day. I also tried to give my whanau an insight into my beliefs and values and home grown wisdom. My aim was for them to have a greater understanding of their grandmother's journey. I also included the little background I had to our ancestry, and left some clues in the final pages for maybe the grandchildren to research further. I have never wanted to spend large amounts of time on ancestry like some of my cousins, but I found the exercise very therapeutic and healing. I also collated all the poems I've written over the years for my whanau. I have always enjoyed writing poetry about special experiences that 'touch' me and this took me back to my growth in spirituality, and aspects of life I have reflected on. Like many of you I found this Lockdown a time to 'go within' and meditate on what is important for me at this time of my life.
